The Experience
How to prepare you and your child for your upcoming session
Feed your baby a nourishing meal or a delightful snack before you head into the studio for your photography session. A fed baby is a happy baby, and ensuring your little one is content can make for a much smoother and more enjoyable experience for everyone involved!
2. Schedule your session preferably right after nap time and when baby is at their happiest time of day. (If you want an outdoor session, this may not be possible due to sunset times).
3. Please wait until you arrive at the session location to dress your baby in their chosen outfit. By doing this, you can ensure that there will be no wardrobe accidents or mishaps that could occur before the session begins. Additionally, this approach will help in avoiding any unwanted wrinkles that may appear, allowing your little one to look their best for the photos.
4. Please don't bring snacks to the session to prevent food in the baby's mouth during photos (cake is okay). Also, avoid bringing toys or comfort items you don't want in the pictures, as they may make it hard to take photos without them.
When preparing for the event, it is essential to remember to bring a towel for any unexpected spills or messes. Additionally, packing some extra clothing can be beneficial in case of accidents or spills during the day. Don't forget to include baby wipes, as they are handy for effectively cleaning up any excess cake or other remnants that may arise throughout the session.
Consider the option of leaving both guests and siblings at home for the duration of the photo session. The baby can become easily distracted and overwhelmed by too many people surrounding them during this important time. A quieter and more intimate atmosphere might enhance the overall experience for everyone involved.
6. If you're having a cake smash, bring a container for any leftovers you want to take home.
8. Order a cake about a month in advance. Choose a 4 inch or 6 inch cake to avoid overshadowing the baby in the photos.
9. To ensure that your baby will truly enjoy both playing with and eating the cake during the cake smash session, it is a good idea to let them play in some kind of mushy food, such as creamy mashed potatoes, a few times prior to the big day. Additionally, you could try giving your little one a cupcake on a few occasions before their session. This can enhance the likelihood that your baby will show genuine interest in the cake, as they will have already had the chance to touch it and taste it beforehand!
02 WHAT SHOULD BABY WEAR?
There are a few options for baby:
Naked baby bum
Diaper cover
Your outfit of choice
Outfit from our studio wardrobe closet
02 What to expect during the shoot
Babies, by nature, tend to have a short attention span, and through our experience, we have found that they typically become uninterested in the session after around 30 minutes. Every baby is unique and different, however, we have consistently found that a 35 to 45 minute session duration is the perfect amount of time for a successful baby milestone session. It is important to keep in mind that we will have plenty of time available if we need to extend the session duration for any reason.
WILL THE CAKE BE PROVIDED FOR THE BABY MILESTONE SESSION?
unfortunately at this time we do not provide cakes for photo sessions.
I sincerely hope that these helpful tips have been effective in getting you well prepared for your baby’s upcoming milestone session! The baby’s mood, the choice of clothing, and your personal expectations will all play a crucial role in setting the overall tone for your photography session.
